Tips for a Successful Transaction

Read all the information the seller provides so you can make a smart decision. Sometimes there cannot be a TL;DR.

If you still have questions after reading everything, or have any special requests, ask before bidding. What you want may not be possible.

Check your email, including spam. It's our only means of contacting you.

Read the entire email, the last sentence may be a question. Not replying can delay shipment.

If you are having trouble receiving emails, you can see messages sent to you through the AquaBid messaging system by going HERE and entering your Username and Password.

Make sure the email and physical addresses on file with AquaBid and PayPal are up to date and correct.

Check your 10 day weather forecast. Most problems are caused by temperature extremes, both hot and cold.

The seller cannot make the package arrive on a certain day. Priority Mail doesn't have a guaranteed delivery date, it usually takes 2 or 3 days to arrive but may take longer.

Sulawesi Malawa Shrimp

Check out this video to see how active these guys are.
They are like this all the time.

I really think these shrimp are underappreciated!

Your choice of:
24 + 6 small juveniles (under 3/8", avg 1/4")

OR
16 + 4 large juveniles (3/8" - 1/2", avg 7/16")
OR
20 + 4 mix from random scoop (3/16" to 1/2") RISKY!
Great if they are big, sucks if they are small.

Additional shrimp are available to auction winner at a reduced price. Ask as soon as you win if interested.

These are Caridina pareparensis parvidentata and the general consensus seems to be that they won't interbreed with other species in the hobby. Being relatively newly introduced (2008?), these are still a very variable shrimp. Diet and environment do influence body color, mine have been showing mostly blue and peach. The longer I have had them, the higher a percentage have looked bluish with fewer peach but I do not know why. The really large orangey ones shown below are some of the original ones. They all have tiny spots and may have dark stripes and/or white markings.

These are not a vividly colored shrimp like some of the other Sulawesi shrimp. One person wrote asking "Are these still juvies waiting to color up? They are pretty much transparent right now." a couple of hours after receiving the package of 3/8" shrimp. Apparently he hadn't read the auction, looked at pictures on google or done any research on Malawa shrimp... or any shrimp... at all.

The first six photos below are some randomly chosen shrimp that were in the container about 30 minutes before I photographed them and did fade somewhat in that time, especially the peach ones of which there are a couple of individuals who can be almost coral color occasionally. Malawa look best on a dark solid color substrate, not mixed like I have.

These four (blurry, sorry!) were taken in the tank the other day. The coral color is shown first, then a couple of the blue ones and a rather sinister looking gray one that I really like.

While they may lack bright saturated colors, they more than make up for it with activity. They have a hovering floating way of moving through the water which is unlike any other shrimp I have kept. It doesn't lend itself to an easy description, even the video above doesn't fully capture it.

I have been keeping them in slightly alkaline water that isn't very hard with large (>75%) waterchanges. They can handle an unheated tank but won't breed much if the water is cool, they prefer warm water. What seems to be more important than specific parameters is that the tank is mature, fully cycled with plenty of nice biolfilm and live plants. If you think a tank is ready for Sulawesi shrimp because you filled it with "cycled water" and everything else is new, please shop elsewhere. If you have a live planted tank that probably needs a good cleaning, has a nice sticky sponge filter and will be empty as soon as you move those Endler's... These shrimp would love to live there and keep you entertained.

NOTE: I have never kept these shrimp with fish. Although Malawa are very fast, they are also not shy at all. Their outgoing personality and curiosity may put new babies at higher risk than more cautious shrimp.

Term details are on my Just Me page which was updated August 24, 2014. Read it before bidding.

Payment is through PayPal only (you do not need an account, just a credit card), no e-checks. When paying with PayPal, you must use a shipping address, my account is configured to only accept PayPal Confirmed Addresses and I only ship to the address given in PayPal.

Priority Mail shipping is just postage for 2 pounds from 01888, $5.32 to $9.97. You can check that cost yourself at usps.com, it will be much faster than asking me for a quote, use the online price (Regional Rate Box A), not the post office price. I ship to PO Boxes if it's Confirmed Address.

The shrimp will be in a generous amount of water with an ammonia absorbing material and in a breather bag. The box will be insulated with styrofoam. I am not offering a heatpack. No shipping to locations with lows below 40F or highs above 85F.

Local pickup can be arranged at 462 Washington St Woburn MA 01801, weekdays, late afternoon.

Shipping will be delayed if extreme weather may endanger the animals, ...it's a hobby not an organ transplant!

LAG for 24/16/20 if delivered on time. The + quantity is extra and not covered by LAG.

Some of my other auctions may be combined with this for savings on shipping costs.

Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
