I have been keeping fish since I was a little kid, and have probably made every mistake I could. A few years ago, I had an Oscar for a few years, and that was a great pet. Sadly, I neglected the fish out of being lazy and also not knowing how to maintain a healthy system for this interactive pet. I finally had to put this poor animal down due to a condition called Hole In The Head. I have to credit the internet and YouTube with finally putting all the pieces in place, then joining the Missouri Aquarium Society finished the puzzle of creating and maintaining a healthy system to raise fish that flourish and thrive. I started selling what my tanks are producing on AquaBid out of a desire to avoid killing the snails that boomed in my tanks. I don't ever again want to feel like I let the little animals I raise suffer and have lives that are wasted. As hobbyists, it is our responsibility to protect the animals in our care. For me, that includes working to explore any way to pass on what we produce instead of culling or killing excess animals and plants. Why Fry??? I think some people are nervous about buying fry. I actually prefer to buy fry and very young fish for a number of reasons. You know how old the fish are, it is so interesting to see them grow and for guppies to see how they color and pattern, but what I have found is that the fry acclimate to your water much better than mature fish and for guppies seem to live much longer. I understand that sometimes you are wanting to have mature fish immediately, but if you can raise babies in your tanks they will definitely thrive as adults.
