Old Kenya Hand

Conserving a bit of Africa
Susan and I worked in Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Africa) in the 70's and 80's. We collected fish for the Kenya National Museum at the request of Dr. Humphry Greenwood at BMNH. We raise Aphyosemion primigenium (Vulnerable) or A. celiae (Endangered), during the summer months.

Most Influential
Prof. Bill Harsell at Rutgers introduced us to Rosario La Corte. We watched him work in his fishroom before driving to MAKA meetings. Al Fischer at Princeton introduced us to fish culture in outside ponds, Dr. Humphry Greenwood sent us on Nothobranchius collecting trips in East Africa, and Dr. Jim Bohlke spent a lot of time discussing phylogenetics and taxonomy while I was in the Department of Vertebrate Biology at ANSP.
