JustMe Page For: Microlepomis

A bit about me...

I grew up in the woods of western NY stalking trout and netting darters and dace (and yes-members of the now defunct genus Microlepomis) in streams. I earned a bachelor's degree of Environmental Biology with a focus in Ecology from Houghton College in 2009. I breed my fish at home for fun and we both generally enjoy the process.

A bit about my fish...

I am fortunate to have soft, alkaline, unchlorinated well water. (!?) It's well enough buffered that the pH doesn't crash by accident and poorly enough buffered that I can lower it if I want to using oak leaves from my backyard. Consequently I breed soft and hard water species in untreated water. I breed and rear all of my fish in three tanks--a 20 high, a 45 extra high and a 75. I've been working out ways to increase productivity within those confines and am currently breeding eleven species in those three tanks. My cichlids are almost all parent raised. I am usually working with at least a few CARES species--C. myrnae and C. nanoluteus at the moment. I produce livebearers, Central and South American cichlids. Because of my water I can breed Apistogramma and rams in the same water I breed Cryptoheros and livebearers in. Thanks for looking, enjoy my fish!

The starting female from my line of Honduran red points--one of my favorite fish!
