Don's Indoor Pond

Red Devils & Dovis
I built this pond for the love of aggressive and other tropical fresh water fish. The pond is located in the basement where the winter months will not harm the fish due to the cold. There is no heater in the pond because it is not needed. There are natural rocks in the pond that retains heat. I have all sorts of fish but mainly South American Cichlids. I also breed Red Devils. They are one of my most aggressive fish besides the Dovis. I also have a Red Tail Catfish and he is growing at a fast pace. He is almost 3 feet long and he is one of my favorite. I call him Mr. Red Tail. He has a ferocious appetite devouring as much as a dozen hard boiled eggs in one feeding. He also eats hot dogs and dog food. All the foods I feed Mr. Red Tail the other fish eat as well. This type of food helps greatly because they are cheap compared to regular fish food which can get very expensive especially live food.

Check Out My Pond
I built the pond with a rubber liner made especially for fish ponds. It is very strong and light weight and surprisingly thin for its durability. I used cement blocks for its structure. You have to be extremely cautious because cement blocks contains a chemical called lye. It is in soaps. It will kill the fish if the pond is not properly filtered. I have 2 pumps running at all times. I have a 3,000 gallon and a 3,500 gallon pump. I only use one 3,000 gallon filtering system. The only pond maintenance is adding 2 inches of water once a month lost from evaporation. The other maintenance is cleaning the filtering system twice every month. Everyone should have a pond and anyone can build one. I highly recomend it. My pond is a peaceful atmosphere and a relaxing experience. The water fall alone creates a feeling of nature and tranquility.
